Imaging and Interactivity in the Age of AI: Multimedia Art and Cognitive Experience

Through case studies from MYStudio and MIT, this talk explores how generative AI, immersive environments, and interactive systems are reshaping image-making, theatrical expression, and spatial storytelling across film, performance, installation, and hybrid media.

Thorne Brandt is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary creative technologist who has exhibited globally, including Berlin, Art Basel, CAC, Haggerty, and the MCA. He is founding director of Digital Art Demo Space in Bridgeport, Chicago where he works to provide the community with exposure and access to up-and-coming technologies, tools, and approaches to art and play.

Haotian Lin
Haotian Lin
PhD student in the Department of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago, researching how aesthetic forms have problematized the relation of form itself to lived experience across film and media history. Their photography has been recognized by the Tokyo International Foto Awards; they served as a judge for the 2024 MIT AI Filmmaking Hackathon and write film and cultural criticism in English, Chinese, and French.

Jon Satrom
Chicago-based artist, educator, and organizer who delights in digital detritus. He playfully problematizes media systems and interfaces—scrambling tech's polished surfaces with error, creative misuse, and humor. Through performance, software art, and collaborations with humans and machines, Satrom embraces glitches, kludges, and exhaustion aesthetics to reveal the cracks and contradictions in our digital ecologies.
